Soc 5: Rest, Recovery, Overtraining, Reversibility And Thresholds Flashcards
Specifity
Matching training to the requirements of an activity.
E.g a full-back (football) would need good speed and cardiovascular fitness to get up and down the pitch for 90 mins and speed to cover that ground quickly.
Progressive overload
This is when an athlete gradually increases the difficulty of the training, this is the only way an athlete can improve fitness.
Individual needs
Matching the training to the individual needs
A footballer wouldn’t use a rugby players training program because they would have different individual needs.
FITT
FITT is a principle enables you to plan an exercise program to get the most out of it as safely as individual needs.
Overtraining
Overtraining occurs when you train beyond your body’s ability to recover.
Reversibility
Gradually losing fitness instead of progressing or remaining at the current level.
