What is the definition of agility?
The ability to change position and control the body at speed
What sports require agility?
A rugplayer needs agility to dodge tackles and defenders
What is the definition of balance?
Being able to keep your body stable while at rest or on the move
What are the two types of balance and what are the definitions of them?
Static balance is keeping the body stable while stationary
Dynamic balance is maintaining a controlled, stable position whilst moving
Give an example of sports that will need stationary or dynamic balance
Stationary - Gymnasts excecuting a certain position
Dynamic - When you take a shot in football whilst on the run
What is the definition of co-ordination?
The ability to use two or more body parts together
Name 4 different types of co-ordination
- Foot-eye co-ordination
- Head-eye co-ordination
- Hand-eye co-ordination
- Chest-eye co-ordination
Give an example of a sport for each different type of co-ordination
- Football players will need foot-eye co-ordination when they ball is flying towards
What is the definition of power?
The ability to undertake strength performances quickly
What sports require power?
Boxers need alot of power in order to throw powerful punches and land hits on the opponent.
High jump athletes will need alot of power in order to jump as high as possible
What is the definition of reaction time?
The time between a stimilus and a movement in response to it
What sports require reaction time?
100m sprinters will need a quick reaction time in order to react to the whistle/gun quickly. In this case the stimulus is the whistle or the gun, and the movement in response is the athelete moving out the blocks
What is the definition of speed?
The rate at which an individual can perfom a movement or cover a distance
What sport requires speed?
Rugby players will need speed in order to break the line and cover the length of the pitch at a fast rate
