What are the six skill related components of fitness?

A

Agility, Balance, Co-ordination, Power, Reaction time, Speed

What is agility?

A

The ability to change position and control the body at speed. For example, a winger in football will need agility to move swiftly from one direction to the other to try and fool the defender.

What is balance?

A

Balance is being able to keep the body stable while at rest or on the move. There are 2 types of balance: Static balance - Keeping the body stable while stationary.
Dynamic balance - Maintaining a controlled, stable position while moving.

What is co-ordination?

A

Co-ordination is the ability to use two or more body parts together. For example, when serving in tennis, you need to be able to throw is up, plant your feet, and prepare to hit the ball with the opposite hand.
Some DIFFERENT types of co-ordination are:
-Foot-eye co-ordination, Chest-eye co-ordination, Head-eye co-ordination, Hand-eye co-ordination.

What is power?

A

The ability to undertake strength performances quickly. The best example to train this is plyometrics training. A formula for this is: Power= Strength x Speed. An example of this is high jump as they need a lot of power in their legs to overcome the bar.

What is reaction time?

A

The time between a stimulus and a movement in response to it. An example of a stimulus is a ball as you need to react as soon as they hit it or before the ball is fired at you
