Why is it important to apply the principles of training?
To prevent overuse injury
Why must you play to the rules is sports?
To prevent injury and keep the game safe
What are the 5 ways we can prevent injury?
- use the correct principles of training
- play to the rules
- wear the right protective equipment/training
- check your equipment/facilities
- warm up/cool down
What does the acronym R.I.C.E stand for?
R est the injured area for 48 hours
I ce for 20 minutes at a time, 4-8 times per day
C ompress to help reduce swelling
E lavate the injured limb 6-10 inches above the heart
What is a soft tissue injury?
A joint injuries
What is a sprain injury?
A Damaged ligament
What is a strain injury?
A twist, pull or tear of a muscle or tendon
What is a torn cartilage injury?
When the elastic substance which lines adjoining bones is damaged
What is a fracture injury?
A broken or cracked bone.
What is a dislocation injury?
A dislocation is when a bone at a
joint is forced out of its normal
position
What is a concussion injury?
A knock to the head- Symptoms include: headaches, loss
of coordination, confusion or slurred
speech
What is an abrasion injury?
Friction of the skin against a rough
surface

Falling or landing awkwardly
