What are the main treatments available for people who want to stop smoking?
Nicotine replacement therapy - patch, gum etc
Bupropion (zyban) - originally used to treat depression, moa is uncertain thought to effect parts of brain involved in addicitive behaviour.
E-cigarettes - contain nicotine with less harmful chemicals in them ( not available on prescription)
Varenicline - previously available no taken off due to concerns, reduce nicotine cravings and blocks the rewarding and reinforcing effects of smoking.

Number of packs smoked per day x number of years smoking
E.g 3 packs a day for 2 years = 6 pack years
For pack year calculations give the number of cigarettes in a pack, a pipe and a roll up?
20 cigarettes in a pack
1 pipe = 2.5 cigarettes
25 grams = 50 cigarettes
What are some potential barries to health promotion?
Lack of awarness of local services
