    • risk of allergie (shellfish)
  • Negative contrast = air
    • use if allergic to iodine

technique of anthrography

A
  1. inject lidocaine over site
  2. sterile betadine prep and sterile technique
  3. enter ankle with a 23 gauge needle just medial to the tibialis anterior tendon
  4. inject 8-10cc of contrast material
  5. Passive ROM of ankle
  6. examine under fluroscopy

  • Abnormal
    • EXTRAVASATION of contrast beyond the confines of the joint
    • Calcaneal fibular ligament tear with contrast in the peroneal tendon sheath
