How is babesia canis transmitted
Via dermacentor tick (decorated one)
Where is babesia canis common due to tick distribution

Clinical signs of babesiosis
Pallor, jaundice, pyrexia, splenomegaly, haemolytic anaemia, thrombocytopaenia
Lethargy, weakness
How can we diagnose babesiosis
Via blood smear and looking for intra-erythrocytic parasite
What drug is used to treat babesiosis
Imidocarb diproprionate
WHat is ehrichiolosis
Disease caused by infection with ehrlichia canis
–> Transmitted by brown dog tick
Common in Cyprus, Italy
What is challenging about preventing ehrlichiosis
Only takes 3 hours for transmission of disease; even best acaracides can’t kill ticks this quickly
Clinical signs of erhlichiosis
Acute: lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, pyrexia, bleeding disorders
Chrnic: bone marrow damage, immune complex damage
