SLT Approach Flashcards
1
Q
pos evaluation - comprehensive explanation, cog + behaviorist
A
- classical and operant conditioning not adequate in explaining learning
- behaviorist forgets we can store behavior and make judgments
- this approach uses roles of mediation for a comprehensive explanation
2
Q
pos evaluation
explains cultural differences - children, societies
A
- how children learn from cultural norms
- in particular societies, it explains how children learn a range of behaviors like gender roles (often through media)
3
Q
neg evaluation - lack of internal validity, labs, demand characteristics
A
- observed in labs so is contrived
- demand characteristics likely
- bobo doll experiment tell us little about the development of child aggression as they were just doing what was expected of them
- no real world application or internal validity
4
Q
neg evaluation
no reference to biological factors - boys more aggressive
A
- boys were found to be more aggressive than girls generally in the Bobo doll experiment
- this is because boys have more testosterone
- this biological hormone is an important influence but isn’t considered
5
Q
what is learned behavior?
A
- Bandura believed that behavior is learned
- he believed in classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and indirect
- he also believed in observation and imitation
6
Q
what is vicarious reinforcement?
A
- where behavior that is rewarded is imitated
- this is because the behavior and consequence is observed
7
Q
what are mediational processes?
Bridge..ARMRR.. reproduce later
A
- the bridge between cognitive and behaviorist
- attention, retention, motor reproduction, repetition
- first 2 are learning, second 2 are performance
- it can be stored and reproduced later
8
Q
what is identification?
A
- where children imitate their role models
- these role models can have similar characteristics, be attractive or have a high status
- these people don’t have to be present in the persons environment - this can influence the media influence on children
