SLT approach Flashcards
How does SLT suggest we learn?
Through OBSERVATION and IMITATION of others.
How does direct learning occur?
Through classical and operant CONDITIONING
How does indirect learning occur?
Imitaion only occurs if the observed behaviour is REWARDED rather than punished.
This is called VICARIOUS REINFORCEMENT.
What is Vicarious reinforcement?
Imitation that only occurs if the observed behaviour is rewarded. The learner not only observes the behaviour but the CONSEQUENCES of it too.
What is identification?
When people are likely to imitate people they identify with. The person they identify with is called a ROLE MODEL, and the process of imitating is called MODELLING.
Why do we have mediational processes?
Because we do not automatically imitate observed behaviour, there is THOUGHT prior to imitation and this is called meditational processes.
This occurs BETWEEN observing behaviour and imitating it.
What are the 4 mediatinal processes?
- Attention- noticing a behaviour
2.Retention- how well behaviour is remembered
3.Motor reproduction- ability of observer to perform
4.Motivation- performing the behaviour again, which is determined by whether it’s rewarded or punished.
What was Bandura’s study process?
Children watched adults with BOBO DOLLS. Then children wawtched the adults recieve reward, punishment or nothing to see what they do.
What did Bandura find from his study on bobo dolls?
Children who saw aggressive adults were more aggressive with their doll.
Highest with children seeing aggression REWARDED
