A
Leave off past tense -ed, present progressive, 3rd person singular
SSD often comorbid
No cognitive/hearing impairment
Normal nonverbal lang skills
Empty words like thing that
ALL KIDS WITH SLI WERE LATE TALKERS

… delayed onset of language, limited amount of langauge, deficiencies in morphology, syntax, semantics… limited conversational skills

A

Informal- read a book and talk in past tense

A

Poor grammar and syntax

Plural, tense (past, present prog, third person singular) delayed

How would you treat SLI?

A

Children with language d/o’s 2x exposures to object to name it
Recasting- repeat same thing but add new info/language
Make morphemes more explicit to allow them to hold onto it for longer.

What are some goals for SLI?

A

Produce correct tense in a structured task (book reading/play example)

ID error in structured tasks

Train parents to participate in shared book reading, recasting etc.

What is the prognosis for someone with SLI?

A

Long term language difficulties- difficulty with writing and language processing later on
