What is the citation for the CADL-2?
Communication Activities of Daily Living-2nd Ed. (CADL-2) (Holland et al., 1999)
What is the purpose of the CADL-2?
Obtain a standardized measure of functional communication abilities in adults with neurogenic disorders of language. Can determine if the person is ready to live independently or if they still require support (or what kind). Can monitor level of functioning over time and help plan treatment goals.
How do you obtain a score?
Obtain raw score from 50 items (max is 100) and find index score. It will then note whether the level of functional communication is high or low.

What should you make note of during this test and why?
Response mode (gestures, writing) to ID strategies that are more or less useful in different situations.
How is reading/writing/using numbers evaluated?
Signs, directions, calculations, setting dates
How are social interactions evaluated?
Correcting, making inferences, greeting, requesting clarification
How is contextual communication evaluated?
Indicating what one would wear in the rain, interpreting environmental signs
How is nonverbal communication evaluated?
Map use, sign for poison, facial expressions, emotions
How are sequential relationships evaluated?
Speed on a speedometer/speed limit sign, fire and making a 911 call
How are humor, metaphor and absurdity evaluated?
Finding the funny picture in a FO3, interpreting figurative language, recognizing a physician’s crazy recommendation

Weather, email
