Insomnia
A. Dissatisfaction with sleep quality or quantity characterized by 1+ of the following
- hard to fall asleep
- frequently wakes up and hard to fall back asleep
- wakes up early am and can’t return to sleep
B. Clinically significant distress/impairment
C. 3+ x nights / week
D. Present for at least 3 months
E. Person has opportunity to sleep
Hypersomnolence disorder
A. Excessive sleepiness despite sleeping 7+ hours + at least one of the following
- recurrent periods of sleep in the same day
- prolonged main sleep episode of 9+ hours that is not restorative
- hard to be fully awake after abrupt awakening
B. at least 3 x week, for at least 3 months
Narcolepsy
DON’T NEED TO KNOW SPECIFIC CRITERIA
Recurrent episodes of falling asleep/napping throughout the same day. 3 x week over the past 3 months.
cataplexy: sudden loss of muscle control while conscious. may be after laughing or joking
Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea
Polysomnography shows obstructive apnea (pauses of breathing) or hypopnea (shallow breathing) + other symptoms (snoring, snorting/gasping, etc.).
