Autism Spectrum Disorder
A. Deficits in social communication/interaction across multiple contexts (3/3):
1. deficits in social-emotional reciprocity (difficulty with back and forth conversation, shared
interests/emotions, initiating bxs, etc).
2. deficits in nonverbal communication used for social interaction (eye contact, body language,
difficult understanding gestures, lack of facial expression, etc)
3. deficits in developing, maintaining, and understanding relationships
B. Restrictive, repetitive patterns of bx, interests, and activities (2/4):
1. Stereotyped/repetitive movements, use of objects, or speech
2. Insistence on sameness, inflexible adherence to routines, ritualized patterns of
verbal/nonverbal bx
3. Highly restricted, fixated interests
4. Hyper or hypo reactivity to sensory input
C. Sxs must appear in early developmental period
ADHD
A. Persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development as characterized by both of the following:
1. Inattention: 6+ of the following sxs for at least 6 months; inconsistent with developmental
level and impair social/academic/occupational activities.
a. lack of attention to detail; careless mistakes
b. hard to sustain attention in task or play
c. does not seem to listen when spoken to directly
d. does not follow through on instructions or fails to complete work/chores
e. difficulty organizing tasks and activities
f. avoids/dislikes engaging in tasks that required sustained mental effort
g. loses things needed for tasks/activities
h. easily distracted by external stimuli (includes unrelated thoughts for adults/teens)
i. forgetful in daily activities
2. Hyperactivity or impulsivity: 6+ of the following sxs for at least 6 months (…)
a. fidgeting, tapping, squirming in seat
b. leaves seat in situation they are expected to remain seated
c. runs or climbs in inappropriate situation
d. unable to play or engage in leisure activities quietly
e. often “on the go”, as if “driven by a motor” (uncomfortable being still)
f. often talks excessively
g. blurts out answers before a question is completed
h. difficulty waiting their turn
i. interrupts/intrudes on others
B. Several symptoms must be present prior to age 12
C. Several symptoms present in 2+ settings
D. Symptoms cause impairment
Disruptive mood regulation disorder
A. Severe recurrent temper outbursts that are out of proportion to the situation/provocation.
B. Outbursts are inconsistent with developmental level.
C. Outbursts occur on average 3+ x week.
D. Mood between outbursts is persistently irritable or angry most of the day, nearly every day.
E. Duration: 12+ months. No longer than 3 consecutive months without symptoms.
F. Sxs are present across at least 2-3 settings.
G. Dx should not be made before age 6 or after age18.
H. Onset of sxs is before 10 years of age.
I. Never has met criteria for mania/hypomania for more than 1 day.
Oppositional defiant disorder
Pattern of irritable/angry mood, argumentative/defiant bx, or vindictiveness lasting 6+ months. 4+ symptoms. Outside of typical development.
Conduct disorder
Persistent pattern of disregard for others/rules/societal norms (age appropriate). May manifest as aggression towards people and animals, destruction of property, deceitfulness/theft, and/or serious violations of rules (truancy, out past curfew, etc).
Intermittent explosive disorder
Recurrent outbursts and inability to control aggressive impulses. Manifested as verbal or physical aggression, destruction of property. Aggressive outbursts are out of proportion with provocation/precipitating events. Must be at least 6 years old.
