Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs)
-gentle chemical exfoliants that exfoliate the skin by gently dissolving the bonds between surface skin cells
-found in anti-aging products
-acne reducing pigmentation, brightening skin tone, giving skin a smoother & plumper texture
-common AHAs ( lactic acid & glycolic acid) least likely to irritate skin
-doesn’t penetrate deep below the skin surface due to the fact it’s water soluble
- ideal for all skin types
Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHAs)
-known as salicylic acid
-chemical exfoliants that are ideal for treating blemish-prone skin & blackheads
-help removal of dead skin cells
-oil soluble
-penetrate below the skin’s surface to clear your pores of excess sebum & dirt to reduce oiliness, reducing inflammation & fighting bacteria on the skins surface
-best for those with congested skin & oily skin
Ceramides
-lipids that provide smooth plumpness to the skin
-found in the epidermal layers of the skin, acts as a barrier, protecting the skin from environmental stressors such as pollution, dry air & debris
-restores skin’s hydration & moisture, leaving skin looking supple
- suitable for all skin types
Niacinamide
- popular ingredient found in skincare products
-used to treat acne, rosacea & hyperpigmentation
-derives from vitamin B3 , contains anti inflammatory properties
-also improves skin’s elasticity, strengthens the putt layers of the skin, helps boost levels of fatty acids in the skin leading to plumper looking skin
Hyaluronic Acid (HA)
- helps with soft tissue growth, prompts your body to make collagen & elastin, keeps your skin moisturizer, prevents tightness, boosts elasticity & reduces scarring
-found in anti-aging skincare products
Retinol
-Potent derivative of Vitamin A
-converted to retinoic acids, the active form of Vitamin A
-Topical retinol boosts cell turnover which promotes skin renewal, leaving brighter and healthier skin
-Acne fighting ability, it’s anti-aging properties & it’s skin brightening power
Peptides
-amino acids that link together to form proteins which are building blocks of our skin
-small enough to penetrate the skin , signal body to produce more collagen
Vitamin C
-Powerful antioxidant
-when applied topically stimulates collagen, elastin production, leading to younger looking & firmer feeling skin
-Protects skin from environmental aggressors & prevents damage
-Used for skin brightening, hyperpigmentation correcting & skin tone evening as it helps to reduce scars or spits without changing your normal skin pigmentation
Vitamin E
-Naturally occurs in 8 chemical forms
-Most commonly listed skincare products are tocopheryl acetate & tocopherol
-Potent antioxidant
- helps protect the skin from environmental pollution & has anti- inflammatory properties ( extremely soothing & calming), prevent the signs of premature again

Importance of SPF
-Limited sun exposure will be crucial to the after care of most treatments

2 types of sunscreen
- Physical (mineral) sunscreen ingredients(including the minerals titanium dioxide & zinc oxide) block & scatter the rays before they penetrate your skin
-Chemical sunscreen ingredients ( avobenzone & octisalate) absorb UV rays before they can damage your skin
Face massaging techniques
-optimize the results of your facial treatment when dealing with varying skin.
-By massaging the face, you are releasing the lymphatic drainage within the skin circulating blood flow & oxygen giving the facial appearance for definition & plumpness
