excessive exposure to sun and UV light with susceptible vit D receptor genes
family or personal hx of skin cancer
freckles
light skin color, hair color, or eye color
sunburns early in life
Basal cell cancer (BCC)
starts small, shiny, firm nodules that enlarge slowly, bleed and scab, then heal
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)
middle layer of the epidermis and may develop on sun-damaged skin or even in the mouth lining or tongue. Begins as reddened area with scaly, crusted surface that does not heal.
Melanoma
deadliest type of skin cancer, originates int he melanocytes and tends to spread rapidly. Biopsy is essential
