What is erythema nodosum?
Inflammation of subcutaneous fat that causes tender erythematous, nodular lesions. They usually occur on the shins and resolve within 6 weeks.
They can be caused by infections (TB) systemic diseases (sarcoid, IBD, bechets) malignancy, drugs (COCP) or pregnancy
What would a biopsy of erythema nodosum show?
Inflammation around the septum between lobules of fat in SC tissue
How is erythema nodosum treated?
Most cases are self limiting over 3 - 6 weeks
Treat the underlying cause
What is acanthosis nigricans associated with?
GI malignancies such as gastric and pancreatic cancer
What is pyoderma gangrenosum?
A rapidly enlarging very painful ulcer. It is a reaction to an internal disease or condition such as IBD, rheumatoid, leukemia
