Bullous disorders Flashcards
What is bullous pemphigus?
An autoimmune blistering diorder of the epidermis which is seen in middle age. It causes localised flaccid bullae of the skina nd mucous membranes
What causes bullous pemphigus?
IgG antibodies directed against desmosome components resulting is loss of adhesion between the cells and splitting within the epidermis
What disease shows an intra - epidermal split with a typical chicken wire pattern on immunofluoresence?
Bullous pemphigus. Immunoflurecense due to intercellular IgG
What is bullous pemphigoid?
An autoimmune disorder where the target molecules are found in the lamina lucida and this causes the development of sub epidermal blisters
What disease revelas a sub epidermal split and a linear band of IgG along the basement membrane on immunofluoresence?
Bullous pemphigoid
What are the antibodies towards in pemphigus vulgaris?
Desmoglein 3 - a cadherin type epithelial cell adhesion molecule
Which part of the skin in affected in pemphigus?
Intra epidermal
Which part of the skin is affected in dermatitis herpatiformis?
Sub epidermal
