Structure of the skin
The skin is made up of two layers. They are the epidermis (outer layer) and the dermis (inner layer)
The skin
The skin is the largest organ in your body. The skin is an excretory organ which means that it removes waste, such as water and salts (sweat), from the body
The epidermis
The epidermal is made up of dead cells. The malpighian layer is the inside. It contains a pigment that protects us from the sun
Dermis
Sweat glands remove water and salt (sweat) from the blood. The sweat escapes the body through the pores. Blood vessels (veins and arteries) supply the skin with oxygen and nutrients. Nerves allow us to feel sensations (hot, cold, pain). Oil glands produce oil to moisten the skin hairs help to keep are body warm. Fat cells insulate the body
Functions of the skin
It removes sweat from the body. Maintains body heat (37 degrees C). The malpighian layer protects us from the sun, it protects us from micro-organisms entering the body and it lets us feel sensations. Vitamin D is made by the skin in sunlight
Healthy skin
Wash body don't touch spots wash hands eat healthy avoid over-exposure to the sun moisturise get enough sleep cleanse
