Skeletal Sytem Flashcards
Functions of skeleton
Support Protect Movement Red blood cell production Mineral storage
S&S of Fracture
Pain Loss of power Unnatural movement Swelling Deformity Irregularity Crepitus Tenderness
Types of bone
Long bones - femur humerus
Short bones - carpals and tarsals
Flat bones - Pelvis, clavicle
Sesamoid bones located in tendons at joints - Patella

Types of fracture
Open - where skin is broken at site of fracture (bone may not be protruding)
Closed - skin is intact at site of fracture
Complicated - associated injury to important structures such as blood vessels
What is a strain and a sprain
Strain - over stretching or tearing of a muscle or tendon
Sprain - over stretching or tearing of a ligament at a joint
