Stage 2 labour
Expulsion of the baby 5 minutes - 2 hours Don't move history of rapid deliveries Crowning Rush of blood should be no more than 500ml
Stage 1 Labour
Dilation of cervix 8-10 hours
Regular contractions start
Contraction intervals at 10 minutes - admission to hospital
Uterus contracts & head of foetus and membranes descend to pelvis during latter half
Stage 3 labour
Delivery of the placenta
15 - 20 minutes
Deliver placenta to bag or bowl
Rush of blood not exceeding 200-300ml
What is an ectopic pregnancy
Pregnancy within Fallopian tubes
Fatal condition if not removed
What is placenta Praevia
Placenta lies across cervix
What is placenta abruptio
Separation of placenta from uterus
Bleeding occurs behind placenta
What is pre eclampsia
High blood pressure during pregnancy
What is eclampsia
Convulsions during pregnancy
Can occurring during pregnancy, labour & delivery, up to 48 hours after delivery
What is antepartum haemorrhage
Bleeding from the vagina after 24 weeks pregnancy
Indicates placenta has separated prematurely
Post partum haemorrhage
Bleeding after birth due to tear in perineum or from vagina before placenta is delivered
What is a breech birth
Abnormal birth where buttocks and feet present first
Can be life threatening for the baby
What is shoulder dystocia
Difficulty of delivery of the shoulders after the head
What is sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
Often referred to as cot death
Occurs typically in infants between 1 and 6 months old
Death is sudden and unexpected
Breathing rates in children
<1 year - 30-40 Breaths PM
1-2 years - 25-35 Breaths PM
2-5 years - 25-30 Breaths PM
5-11 years - 20-25 Breaths PM
Heart rates in children
<1 year 110-160bpm
1-2 years 100-150bpm
2-5 years 95-140bpm
5-11 years 80-120bpm
