Spongy bone
filled with red bone marrow

hard dense bones that provide strength and structure
Short bones
provide support and stability
Flat bones
protection an provision of broad surfaces
Irregular bones
serve many different things but can protect the nervous system
Diaphysis
shaft or central part of a long bone
Periosteum
dense layer of vascular connective tissue enveloping the bones except at the surfaces of the joints
Epiphyseal line
cartilage plate at the end of each long bone
Comminuted fracture
break or splinter in the bone
Compression fracture
bones weaken and crumple
Depressed fracture
crushed portion of the skull
Impacted fracture
broken extremities hit each other
Spiral fracture
