Skeletal Anatomy: Pelvic girdle Flashcards
How does each hip bone form?
Fusion of 3 bones: ilium, ischium, pubis
Where are the right and left pubic bones attached to?
Pubic symphysis, attached to a median fibrocartilage pad
What are the landmarks along the margin of the ilium?
Iliac spines, gluteal lines, greater sciatic notch
What are the 3 iliac spines?
- Anterior, superior
- Posterior, superior
- Posterior, inferior
What do the gluteal lines mark?
Attachment site of large hip muscles
What passes through the greater sciatic notch?
Major nerve (sciatic nerve) passes through to reach the lower limb
What is the acetabulum?
Concave socket, where the ilium, ischium and pubis meet
What does the acetabulum articulate with?
Head of the femur
What is the function of the is goal tuberosity?
Bears the body’s weight when Sears
What is the position of the ischial spine?
Projects inferior to the greater sciatic notch
What is the space between the ischium and pubis?
Obturator foramen, closed by a sheet of collagen fibers
What is the function of the obturator foramen?
Provides a firm base for the attachment if muscles of the hip.
What is the obturator foramen bounded by?
Ischial ramus, inferior pubic ramus and superior pubic ramus
What does the pelvic girdle consist of?
Paired hip bones (coxal bones)
