What are the facial muscles?
Frontalis, temporalis, occipitalis, zygomaticus, masseter, buccinator, sternocleidomastoid, orbicularis oculi, orbicularis oris
Where do muscles of facial expression originate?
Surface of skull
Where does the frontalis originate?
Aponeurosis of the skull
Where is the insertion of the frontalis?
Skin of eyebrow and bridge of nose
What action does the frontalis do?
Raises eyebrows, wrinkles forehead
Where does the orbicularis oculi originate?
Medial margin of orbit
Where is the insertion of the orbicularis oculi?
Skin around eyelids
What action does the orbicularis oculi perform?
Closes the eye
Where does the zygomaticus originate?
Zygomatic bone
Where is the insertion of the zygomaticus?
Angle of mouth and upper lip
What action does the zygomaticus perform?
Retracts and elevates corner of mouth and upper lip
Where does the temporalis originate?
Along temporal lines of skull
Where is the insertion of the temporalis?
Coronoid process of mandible
What action does the temporalis perform?
Elevates mandible and closes the jaws
Where does the masseter originate?
Zygomatic arch
