Simonton () Flashcards
Big-C creativity
Refers to all creators who generated an identifiable product without necessarily rendering the person highly eminent
Boldface-C creativity
Refers to creativity of those who have left a mark on human civilisation
Google test
Pick a creative individual and google them. If you get thousands of clearly relevant sites the person passes the preliminary exam. If the links include at least one site dedicated to that individual, then Google certification attains the highest level of confidence
Little-c creativity
Refers to e.g. solutions to a problem like a missing cake recipe
Versatility
Defined by having achieved eminence in more than one domain or subdomain
Psychopathology
Highly creative people exhibit a “shared vulnerability” with the mentally ill insofar as both groups display exceptional cognitive disinhibition
Dispositional traits
Must have some foundation in the early environmental experiences that shape creative development
Disposition
As much a function of nurture as nature if not more
Creativity
Often defined as an idea that is both (1) novel, original, or unique and (2) effective, adaptive, or functional. These two components are continuous rather than discrete variables. The variation in them does not have to go together
Creative genius
A quantitative rather than qualitative trait. It is associated with other quantitative variables. Three categories: (1) Achieved eminence. (2) Creative productivity, and (3) Grade predictors
Productivity
One of the hallmarks of creative genius. They have a good rate of output and initiate output at an unusually young and age and not end their output until quite advanced in years. A small number of creators dominate their chosen domain. The norm is for the creators who produce the most works to also produce the most masterworks
