Switching to internal PWR prior to departure should occur when?
Approx 10-15 mins prior to pushback
How do we verify duct pressure prior to engine start?
Place demand on APU via packs
Potential Hot Start conditions?
- Duct pressure less than 21psi
- Initial FF above 700pph
- Very slow or no accel of N2 with rapidly increasing EGT
From crew perspective, hot starts generally from?
Late recognition and/or delayed action of moving FCS to CUTOFF
with rapidly rising EGT, the FCS must be selected to CUTOFF well in advance (minimum 80 degrees before) red line to avoid exceedence.
After an Aborted Engine Start what is target N2 for re-engaging starter?
Below 20%
To re-establish comm with ground crew after all connections have been removed?
Flash the NOSE GEAR light 3 times.
Max N1 for taxi?
If more than IDLE is required, use 45% N1 MAX
Max taxi speed?
- 25kts
- 30kts on straightaway
Normal taxi speed?
20kts
Cold Wx Ops, nose gear steering?
Should be exercised in both directions during taxi to circulate warm HYD fluid through system and minimize steering lag.
Cold WX Run Up
Conditions for requirement?
Target N1 and time?
- CONDITIONS
- Below 3C OAT
- ENG A/I Required
- TARGETS
- 60% N1 for 30 seconds
- Maintain 30 min max intervals
SMCGS Ops RVR?
1200RVR
Airport must have plan that incorporates additional lighting, markings, and procedures.
Exterior lights for crossing active runway?
ALL
After landing engine cool down prior to single-engine taxi?
- 3 minutes at idle for GE
- 5 minutes at idle for PW
MAP range for takeoff?
10 miles to verify runway then out to view ACTIVE WPT
Engine Out Procedure MAP display?
Consider use of TERRAIN
Danger of takeoff into strong headwinds with regards to autothrottles?
May arm THR HOLD before autothrottle can make final thrust adjustments.
When does rudder become effective during takeoff roll?
Between 40 and 60 knots
PM 80KTS CALL (what 3 things?)
- Airspeed Indicators Agree
- N1 THR SET
- THR HOLD Engaged
Rotation rate? Use of FD for rotation?
- 2.5 degrees/second for approx 5 seconds
- 15 degree pitch target
- V2 + 15-25kts
- 15 degree pitch target
FD Pitch Command is not used for rotation!
Do not follow commands until after liftoff as FD does not command appropriate rate or attitude!
F/D Pitch Commands after liftoff?
Commands pitch to maintain an airspeed of V2 + 15 to 25 until another pitch mode is engaged.
Turns after takeoff?
- VIA = 50’
- 2ENG = 400’
- 1ENG = 1000’
NADP THR Mode Selection?
NADP1 = THR at 1500’
NADP2 = THR at 1000’
“VNAV + C A/P to CMD”
Max Angle vs Max Rate?
FMC provides angle in KTS (VNAV CLB Page).
Add 50KTS to FL UP Maneuver for best rate.
What is FMC MAX ALTITUDE?
LOWEST OF THE FOLLOWING:
- MAX CERTIFIED ALTITUDE
- FL431
- THR LIMIT ALTITUDE
- Altitude at which sufficient THR avail for climb
- BUFFET LIMIT ALTITUDE
- Altitude at which specific margin exists prior to buffet onset. Provides 0.2G margin @ 33° bank.
What is FMC OPT ALTITUDE?
- Provides MIN COST based on flight length + weight
- Provides 1.5g load factor (48° Bank)
- Increases as A/C weight decreases in ECON or LRC
2000’ above OPT ALTITUDE will normally allow approx 45° bank prior to buffet onset.
Why do we use STEP SIZE 0 in FMC?
Allows for proper fuel and ETA predictions based on OFP.
Otherwise, FMC uses calculated step climbs which may exceed OFP planned altitudes.
Holding speed below 10,000’
Min FLAPS UP speed will exceed 200kts.
Holding with Flaps 1 or 5 will be required.
Don’t break FAA Hold Limit Speed!
How will FMC execute an EXIT HOLD when armed?
It will turn inbound to hold fix as soon as it can cross it wings level and proceed to next waypoint.
Two green donuts on EICAS during descent?
Deceleration Points
- FIRST POINT
- VNAV THR IDLE descent initiated
- SECOND POINT
- 240KTS/10000’
