Silveira - GWAS and polygenic score Flashcards

1

Q

What is a GWAS?

A

Genome Wide Associated Study -> tries to find associations between phenotypes and genetic variants (most often SNPs) by comparing genetic data from control and genetic data from clinical population

Q

How is a polygenic risk score calculated?

A

Sum of risk alleles count weighted by GWAS effect sizes (for each allele) -> calculated for a single individual

Q

A polygenic score can be grossly calculated from multiplying two matrices, which ones?

A

Matrix indicating alleles at risk and how many (1 or both) x matrix indicating effect size for each risk allele
