Counter nutation- sacrum moves backwards (top of coccyx rotates posteriorly)

  • Sacral surface covered in hyaline cartilage
  • Iliac surface covered in fibrocartilage
  • Both surface roughened by elevations and depressions
  • Capsule attached to margins of articular surfaces
    • lined with synovial membrane
    • thick/fibrous
