Counter nutation- sacrum moves backwards (top of coccyx rotates posteriorly)

- Sacral surface covered in hyaline cartilage
- Iliac surface covered in fibrocartilage
- Both surface roughened by elevations and depressions
- Capsule attached to margins of articular surfaces
- lined with synovial membrane
