Signalling Molecules Flashcards
Autocrine
Target cell is the same as the cell releasing
Paracrine
Target cell is nearby cell that releases molecule
Endocrine
Target cell is distant to the releasing cell
Exocrine
Target cell is outside organism
Hormone (plant and animal)
Mode of transmission and function
Endocrine: refers to all endocrine signalling molecules
Neurotransmitters
Mode of transmission and function:
Paracrine: released by neutrons, and diffuse alone a synapse to another neutron to stimulate or inhibit it, or to another nearby tissue like muscle
Cytokines
Mode of transmission(3) and function
Autocrine/paracrine/endocrine: released by immune cells to communicate with other immune cells or body cells
Pheromones
Mode of transmission and function:
Signalling molecules released by cells of an organism that is received by its own species.
Eg. sex attractants for insects
