Leukocytes and lymph system Flashcards
Leukocytes
White blood cells that detect, neutralise and kill infectious agents
Neutrophils
Leukocytes that phagocytose pathogens
Macrophage
Leukocytes that Phagocytose pathogens and are antigen presenting cells
Dendritic cells
Leukocyte: Usually reside on the skin and mucus, also phagocytose. Antigen presenting cells
Eosinophils
Leukocyte: Kill eukaryotic pathogens by secreting self destructive enzymes
Basophils
Leukocytes: involved in allergic response
Lymphocytes
Leukocytes in the lymph system. Two types are B-lymphocytes and T-lymphocytes
Lymph nodes
Sites that contain lymphocytes and all lymph goes through
Which cells have MHC 1 markers?
All cells except red blood cells. Damaged cells such as infected or cancer cells lose their MHC 1 marker
Which cells have MHC 2 markers
Dendritic cells, macrophages and B-lymphocytes. Used to present antigens
