…..
Q1. What is sickle cell disease?
common hereditary hemoglobinopathy caused by a point mutation in β-globin that promotes the polymerization of deoxygenated hemoglobin,
leading to
red cell distortion, hemolytic anemia, microvascular obstruction, and ischemic tissue damage
Q2. How is it inherited? The name of gene responsible ?
AR / Hb beta gene / Chromosome 11
Q3. What is the surgical concerns of sickle cell disease?
infection
Autospleenectomy
delayed healing
Osteomyelitis
HF
GB stones
Anemia
Q4. Why bone pain?
Due to Vasooculosive crises which is triggered by inf / dehydration / acidosis
Q5. Why immunocompromised?
Due to autospleenectomy which make pt susptable to inf with encapsulated organisms (Strept. Pneumonie, N. meningetides)
Q6: What do you think of this SOL?
Most propably brain tumor (1ry or 2ry) / hematoma
Q7: What is the most common primary brain tumor of parenchymal origin?
GBM
O8. Natural history of brain tumors if left untreated?
Lead to increase pressure inside the brain leading to coning and heniation of the brain lead to compression on res centre and death
Biopsy done, shows squamous cells.
Q9. What do you think?
2ry from sq. cell ca.
Q10.Where might be the primary site of SCC?
Skin / Lung / esophageus / Cervix
Q11.post-op craniotomy wound is infected. What is the common causal agent?
Staph aureus
Q12.Fluid from the wound shows glucose 3.2mmol/l. What does it mean?
Means CSF leakage / or communicating with the wound
Q. Function of spleen
1- Intramedullary hemopoiesis
2- share in synthesis of Ig
3- clearance of body from inflammatory cells
4- synthesis of white and red blood cells
