Shoulder muscles Flashcards
Role of rotator cuff muscles and movements
-maintain position of humeral head in the glenoid fossa
-flexion, abduction, internall and external
4 main rotator cuff muscles
-supraspinatus
-infraspinatus
-subscapularis
-teres minor
origin and insertion of subscapularis (GH JOINT MUSCLE)
-originates at subscapular fossa
-inserts at lesser tubercle of humerus
O AND I of supraspinatus (GH JOINT MUSCLE)
originates at supraspinous fossa of scapula
inserts at greater tubercle of humerus
External and internal rotation
O and I of infraspinatus (GH JOINT MUSCLE)
originates at infraspinatus fossa
inserts at tuberosity of the humerus
External rotation of humerus and stabilisation of glenohumeral joint
O and I of Teres minor (GH JOINT MUSCLE)
originates at posterior surface of scap
inserts at greater tubercle of humerus
Stabilises glenohumeral joint
External rotation
O and I of bicep brachii (GH JOINT MUSCLE)
Comprised of 2 heads, long and short
-long originates at supraglenoid tubercle and inserts at radial tuberosity of fascia
-short originates at coracoid process of scapula and inserts at radial tuberosity of fascia
-FLEXOR
O and I of tricep brachii (GH JOINT MUSCLE)
-3 heads, lateral, medial, and long
-lateral originates at humerus, inserts at olacranon of the ulna
-medial originates at humerus, inserts at olacranon of the ulna
-long originates at infraglenoid tubercle of scapula, inserts at olacranon of the ulna
Main function= extension of elbow joint
O and I of Serratus anterior (SCAPULOTHORACIC JOINT MUSCLE)
-orignates at superolateral surfaces of first to eighth ribs at lateral wall of thorax, inserts along superior angle, medial border, inferior angle of scapula
-Protraction and upward rotation
O and I of levator scapulae (SCAPULOTHORACIC JOINT MUSCLE)
-originates from transverse processes of first four cervical vertebrae, inserts at superior angle and medial border of scapula
-Elevation, downward rotation
O and I of deltoids (GH JOINT MUSCLE)
originates at lateral part of clavicle and spine and acromion process of the scapula, inserts at deltoid tuberosity of the humerus
-Flexion AND extension
O and I of coracobrachialis ( GH JOINT MUSCLE)
-originates at coracoid process of scapula, inserts at anteromedial surfaces of humeral shaft
-Flexion
O and I of Pectoralis (GH JOINT MUSCLE)
-MINOR originates at 3rd- 5th ribs and inserts at coracoid process of scapula
-MAJOR has 2 heads, sternocostal and clavicular
-Clavicular originates anterior surface of medial half of clavicle
-Sternocostal originates at anterior surface of sternum
-both inserts at crest of greater tubercle of humerus
- FLEXION AND ADDUCTION AND INTERNAL ROTATION
O and I of latissimus dorsi (GH JOINT MUSCLE)
-Originates at spinous processes of thoracic spine T7-T12, Iliac crest, thoracolumbar fascia, inferior angle of scapula, inserts at intertubercular groove of humerus
-EXTENSION, ADDUCTION, INTERNAL ROTATION
O and I of serratus (SCAPULOTHORACIC JOINT MUSCLE)
-originates at superolateral surfaces of first to 8th ribs at lateral wall of thorax, inserts along superior angle, medial border and inferior angle of the scapula
-PROTRACTION (anterior) AND UPWARD ROTATION (anterior)
-
