Elbow wrist and hand bones Flashcards
3 main bones forming the elbow
-humerus (superior), ulna and radius(inferior)
3 elbow articulations
-trochlear notch
-head of radius and capitulum of humerus
-joint between head of radius and radial notch of the ulna
3 main ligaments in elbow
-radial collateral ligament (lateral), extends from lateral epicondyle to annular ligament
-ulnar collateral ligament (medial), originates from medial epicondyle, attaches to the coronoid process and olecranon of ulna
-annular ligament of radius (across)
ranges of motion for elbow joint
-flexion and extension of forearm
-proximal radio-ulnar joint cause pronation and supination of forearm
distal 4 carpal bones from thumb to pinkie
-trapezium, trapezoid, capitate, hamate +hook
proximal 4 carpal bones
scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum, pisiform
6 joints from distal to proximal
distal interphalangeal, proximal interphalangeal (4 main fingers have 3 phalanges, thumb has 2), metacarpophalangeal, carpometacarpal
-NOTE THE THUMB HAS ONE INTERPHALANGEAL JOINT RATHER THAN 2
name for wrist joint
radiocarpal joint
4 ligaments in the wrist
-palmer radiocarpal (lateral)
-ulnar collateral (medial)
-radial collateral (lateral)
-dorsal radiocarpal (posterior side of hand)
2 ligaments in the finger
-medial and collateral ligaments between metacarpal joint and interphalangeal joint
role of carpal tunnel (anterior)
-entrance for tendons and median nerve
role of extensor retinaculum
-fibrous thick band that holds the extensor tendons of the wrist
-attaches laterally to lower part of anterior border of radius
-attaches mediallly to styloid process of ulna, the triquetral and pisiform
range of motion for wrist, forearm and finger and thumb
-wrist, extension and flexion, ulnar and radial deviation
-forearm, supination and pronation
-finger, hyper-extension, extension, flexion. adduction and abduction
thumb- some weird ass movements, all of above including opposition
3 bony landmarks in the elbow
-lateral and medial condyle
-olecranon (the main bone)
