A

Upper Trapezius and Levator Scapulae

Upward and parallel to spine (shoulder shrug)

20
Q

Upward/Downward Rotation of scapula is (muscles and maneuver):

A

Combined motions of the scapula

21
Q

Getting a 5 in muscle strength means:

A

Complete ROM against gravity and full resistance

22
Q

Getting a 4 in muscle strength means:

A

Complete ROM against gravity and some resistance

23
Q

Getting a 3 in muscle strength means:

A

Complete ROM against gravity

24
Q

Getting a 2 in muscle strength means:

A

Complete ROM with gravity eliminated

25
Q

Getting a 1 in muscle strength means:

A

Evidence of contraction with no joint movement

26
Q

Getting a 0 in muscle strength means:

A

No evidence of muscle contraction

27
Q

If a doc tells you to do the empty can test, he is testing to see if you:
A: tore dat ass up
B: have a rotator cuff pathology, specifically in your supraspinatus muscle
C: have any more beer in those cans
D: Like eating at Chuck E Cheese

A

Most likely he is checking the integrity of your surpaspinatus muscle. B. Or C?

28
Q

The Drop Arm Test indicates a ____ thickness tear in what muscle?

A

Full thickness tear in supraspinatus m

29
Q

While testing a patient for glenohumeral instability, Doctor Gooby utilizes the which two tests?

A

The apprehension test and Sulcus test

30
Q

While performing the apprehension test, Dr. Gooby rotates his patients arm in which direction?

A

Externally

31
Q

While performing the sulcus test, Dr. Gooby applies _____ traction to his patient’s elbow.

A

Inferior traction

32
Q

If Dr. Gooby expects his patient to have a positive Sulcus test, what does he expect to be visible near the acromion?

A

An indentation during inferior traction beneath the acromion

33
Q

Which two tests can be used to assess the integrity of the long head of the biceps?

A

The Yergason’s and Speed’s test

34
Q

Describe the motion of the Yergason’s test

A

Elbow flexed 90 degrees, hand supine. Against doc’s resistance, patient externally rotates against doc’s resistance. The best and only way of remembering the name and motion for this test is to call it the Turd Yergason test and then assume the motion of handing someone a turd who is standing besides you. Obviously.

35
Q

Describe the motion of the Speed’s Test

A

Elbow flexed to about 50-90 degrees, with hand supinated. Resist at forearm as patient attempts to flex shoulder.

36
Q

List two tests for rotator cuff impingement

A

Neer Impingement and Hawkin’s Test

37
Q

Describe Hawkin’s Test

A

Flex shoulder to 90°, flex elbow to 90°, slightly adduct, and passively rotate the humerus into internal rotation. This opposes the rotator cuff against coracoacromial ligament and acromion. Test for rotator cuff impingement or subacromial bursa inpingement.

38
Q

Describe Neer Impingement

A

Stabilize patient’s shoulder, forearm is pronated. Passively flex shoulder to fully flexed position. Test for rotator cuff impingement or subacromial bursa inpingement.

39
Q

Describe Apley Scratch Test

A

This is a ROM test for coupled external rotation and abduction, or coupled internal rotation and adduction.

40
Q

What muscle does the Lift off test test?

A

Subscapularis

41
Q

What is the Lift Off test testing the subscapularis for?

A

strength
