SHN 8C WCC Chapter 2 Flashcards
Muscles Cells
Large number of mitochondria and 3 groups: skeletal, cardiac, smooth
Nerve Cells
create information network across the body with a long fiber (axon)
Blood Cells - Types of blood cells (there are 4) and their jobs
Red Blood Cells: carry oxygen and carbon dioxide
White Blood Cells: part of immune system and fights infeciton
Platelets: Cell fragments associated with blood clotting
Plasma: caries cells and proteins
Fat Cells - the 2 types and what they do
Brown fat cells: produce heat
White fat cells: store energy, insulate the body
Types of plant special cells (5)
Photosynthetic
Guard
Structural
Conducting
Root Hair
Photosynthetic Cell
Contain a large number of chloroplast
Guard Cells
Open and close the stomata allowing for gas exchange
Structural Cells
cell walls of dead conducting cells make up the trunk of the tree
Conducting
long straw link cells that take water from the roots to the leaves
Root hair cells
increase surface area of the cell to absorb water
What is mitosis
cells divide for reproduction
Types of tissue and what they do
Epithelial: cells that form layer over organs
Connective: supports and connects other tissue
Muscle: tissue that contracts allowing movement
Nerve: send electrical messages around the body.
What’s in a fungal cell
same as animal with cell wall
What is plant vascular tissue and what is their jobs?
Xylem: carries water from roots to leaves, made up of strong thin tubes which give the plant structure.
Phloem: tubes that move glucose around the plant.
