Sunni is seen as orthodox, Shiah is seen as heterodox.
Ghadir Khumm
During the Farewell pilgrimmage, muh returned to medina and stopped at Ghadir Khumm, and told everyone in his assembly that he thought ali was awesome and a “patron”, is just as important as him. abandon all who desert him.
People began to interpret Ghadir Khumm in a radical manner - muh had intended ali to become his immediate successor.
Al-Shaykh al Mufid
The guy who gave the most accounts of ali’s deeds and sayings. A twelver. - he did write this almost four hundred years after ali had died. Similar portrait to Ibn Ishaq and the prophet.

He was killed during ramadan, therefore ramadan has three days of grief from shia communities.
What is Ashura?
The son of the guy that had ali killed killed ali’s son. its a period of mourning and martyrdom. it happened at karbala
Karbala play
its like a passion play. a popular expression of mourning for al-husayn.
Redemption
shiites hate that al-husayn and his family were fucked over, especially because they came from Muhammad.
Mahdi
A messianic figure in eschatology that is believed to appear. Some sects of Shiite islam that he is still coming, others think he was either Ismail, or Musa.
what are the imams for shii muslims?
The primordial idea in the mind of god which found temporal manifestation in persons occupying a position midway between human and divine beings.
