esp in young lambs . lambing ewes
esp mannheimia haemolytica
what are the clinical signs of enzootic pneumonia?
sudden death septicaemia pneumonia fever (over 40.3) depressed reduced appetite dyspnoea cough nasal discharge
how can you diagnose enzootic pneumonia?
PM - entire lung affected and cyanotic
how do you normally treat enzootic pneumonia?
oxytet
tilomycosin
how can you prevent enzootic pneumonia?
good ventilation
decrease stress
keep age groups separate
vacc
what causes atypical pneumonia?
mycoplasma ovipneumoniae
what are the signs of atypical pneumonia?
reduced growth fever cough nasal discharge most subclinical
what is seen on PM with atypical pneumonia?
red/brown/grey demarcated area of lung esp apical and cardiac lobes
when is peak contamination for dictyocaulus filarial?
autumn and winter
in what animals is parasitic pneumonia more severe?
johne’s disease as compromised immune status
what are the signs of lungworm?
cough
tachypnoea
nasal discharge
wt loss
what is maedi-visna?
a lenti virus
-mainly vertical transmission
what are the signs of maedi-visna?
wasting mastitis unthriftiness premature culling reduced milk emaciation severe resp signs arthiritis
how can you diagnose maedi-visna?
serology
PM - voluminous lungs, uncollapsed and feel solid

how can you control maedi-visna?
- good quarantine
- cull clinical cases
- cull ewes when 4-5yo
- cull affected offspring
- test and cull
- destock and replace
