Once meiosis is complete the egg is
surrounded by the Graafian follicle which produces oestrogen
When mature the follicle forms a swelling on the outside of the ovary and burst at ovulation
After ovulation it becomes the corpus late
Menstrual cycle
Series of physical and hormonal events that take place every 28 days in preparation for pregnancy
day 1 - 5
Old lining of uterus breaks down and is shed from the body.
New egg is produced in the ovary by meiosis and it’s surrounded by a Graafian follicle
day 6-14
Hormone oestrogen is produced by follicle
It causes the lining of the uterus to be built up again in preparation for implantation and also prevents the development of any more eggs

Ovulation - follicle bursts
Day 14-28
Follicle develops into corpus lateum
which causes the endometrium to think and prevents eggs from forming
Insemination
Release of sperm into female
