Cardiac cycle
1. Atria receives blood from from veins SA node sends electrical signal SA node found in the wall of right atrium near superior vena cava Atria contracts(systole) blood flows in ventricle
2 Av node receives signal from SA node
AV nodes sends signal throughout nerves in cardiac muscle
AV node found at the bottom of right atrium near the septum
Ventricle systole
Tricuspid and Bicuspid valves close and semi-lunar valves open
blood pumped into pulmonary artery and aorta.
Pulse
alteration of contraction and relaxation of an artery
Blood pressure
Force of blood on the walls of the blood vessels
Closed system
blood flows continuously in a network of totally enclosed blood vessels. Blood never leaves
Open system
around cells = most invertebraes
Artery
Carries blood away from heart using powerful pulses
carry oxygenated blood apart from pulmonary artery
Elastic walls due to pulse pressure
Vein
Carries blood towards the heart
Carries deoxygenated blood
Capillary
Blood vessel which is one cell thick
carries blood from ateriole to venule
