What are the signs and symptoms of mild-moderate hyponatraemia?
Headache
Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite
Muscle weakness, muscle cramps
Lethargy, fatigue
What are the signs and symptoms of severe hyponatraema?
Neurological
- confusion
- seizures
- decreased consciousness
- coma
What is hypernatraemia?
Blood sodium levels above 145mM
What are the signs and symptoms of mild-moderate hypernatraemia?
Thirst
Confusion
Muscle spasms
What causes confusion and muscle spasms with hypernatraemia?
Brain cell shrinkage
What are the signs and symptoms of severe hypernatraemia?
Seizures
Coma
What is hypokalaemia?
Blood potassium levels below 3.5mM
What are the signs and symptoms of mild hypokalaemia?
Arrythmia
What are the signs and symptoms of severe hypokalaemia?
Muscle weakness, muscle cramps, muscle pain
Constipation
What causes muscle weakness, muscle cramps and muscle pain with severe hypokalaemia?
Skeletal muscle function is affected
What causes constipation with severe hypokalaemia?
Smooth muscle function is affected
What is hyperkalaemia?
Blood potassium levels above 5mM
