Sertraline Flashcards
Indications for use
Antidepressant ( selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) for major depressive disorders, obsessive-c-d, panic diso., social anxiety disor., post traumatic disor.
MOA
Sertraline selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) at neuronal membrane, increasing serotonergic activity. This results in increased concentration of serotonin in the CNS, which leads to functional changes associated with enhanced serotonergic neurotransmission. These changes are believed to be responsible for the antidepressant action and beneficial effects.
Pharmacological effects
Improves cognition in depressed patients. has less sedative, anticholinergic, and cardiovascular effects than the tricyclic antidepressant drugs
Pharmacokinetics (way of administration, metabolism, elimination, T1/2)
Oral / meta. In liver/ eli. By urine./ 26 hrs.
Overdose effects
Lethargy, tremor, coma, seizures, delirium, hallucinations
Side effects
Mydriasis, low libido, failure to discharge semen in men, inability of erection, - aggressive reaction, confusion, diarrhea, dry mouth, restlessness, insomnia, acidity
Contraindications for use
Hypersensitivity, CNS depression
Drug interactions
Avoid serotonergic drugs can lead to serotonin syndrome
Interactions with products (meal), drinks
Peak concentration was prolonged by approximately 1 hour with the ingestion of food
Children
6-12 years, safe in short time
Elderly patients
A-50mg
Pregnant women
Category C, maxm: 200mg
Overdose treatment
There are no specific antidotes to sertraline.
Patients should be hospitalized with oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, and central venous catheterization available. It is necessary to ensure airway patency, adequate oxygenation and ventilation. Monitor cardiac and other vital functions.
monitor for 48h
