Serological Reactions Flashcards
1
Q
What are serological reactions?
A
Reactions used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of antigens and/or antibodies
2
Q
What is the zone of equivalence?
A
Antigen and antibody are present in proportional amount to allow for no unbound antigen or antibody (neither is in excess)
3
Q
What is a titer?
A
Concentration of an antibody (@ lowest amount of serum) at which it can still cause agglutination (antigen-antibody reaction) of an antigen to occur
4
Q
List serological reactions without complement:
A
- Agglutination
- Precipitation
5
Q
What are the steps of indirect ELISA?
A
- surface covered with antigens
- block free sites with aspecific proteins
- incubate with serum containing antibodies
- incubate with secondary, marked antibodies specific to primary antibodies
- add substrate
- colour reaction means POSITIVE reaction
