Series and Parallel Circuits Flashcards
what happens in a series circuit
two or more electrical components are connected one after another on the same conducting pathway.
a break in any part of the circuit disables all components in the circuit
current and voltage in a series circuit
current is same ( I = I1 = I2 = I3 ….)
voltage is different ( V = V1 + V2 + V3
equivalent resistance in series circuit
R = R1 + R2 + R3….
what happens in parralel circuits
two or more electrical components are connected on different conducting pathways
a break in conducting pathway will still allow charge to flow through any other pathway
example of series and parralel circuit
series: torch
parallel: household lights
voltage and current in a parallel
voltage is the same (V = V1 = V2..)
current is different (I = I1 + I2 + I3…)
equivalent resistance in parralel circuits
R = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + …
