energy
ability of a physical object/ system to cause change
energy can be transferred from one object to another or transformed/converted between various forms
types of energy
KE (determined by movement) - rotation, thermal, sound
PE (determined by how much an object could move) - gravitational, elastic, magnetism
law of consevation of energy,
in a transfer, trasnformation or conversion of energy, the energy is always conserved
work
energy transfered to an object by applying a force parrallel to its displacement

power
measured in watts, and is the rate of work being done
elastic collision
when total KE is conserved and none is lost to heat, sound, deformation etc.
impossible on a macroscopic level but some questions may get u to assume elastic coliisioni
inelastic collisions
total energy is conserved but some KE is converedt to different forms like heat sound or deformation
perfectly inelastic collision
two objects stay together after impact and the total KE of the system decreases even if no KE is converted to other forms
but momentum is always conserved
