Christmas fairy lights
What is the disadvantage of fairy lights?
When one of the bulbs break the whole circuit breaks
What is the advantage of fairy lights?
The bulbs can be very small as the total voltage is shared between them so each bulb only has a small potential difference across it
What is the main example of a parallel circuit?
Electrics in a car
What two features does parallel connection give in a car?
Everything can be turned on and off separately
Everything always gets the full voltage from the battery
What is the disadvantage to this?
When you turn lots of things on the lights may go dim because the battery can’t provide the full voltage under the heavy load
(This is normally a very slight effect)
