Parallel Circuits Flashcards
What is parallel circuit?
When each component is separately connected to the positive and negative of the supply
What happens if one component is removed or disconnected?
Hardly affect other components
What are examples of uses of parallel circuits?
In cars
Un household electrics
(You are able to switch everything on and off separately)
What Is the voltage like in parallel circuits?
All components get the full source of potential difference so it is the same across all components
What does this mean for all identical bulbs connected in parallel?
They will all be the same brightness
What is current like in parallel circuits?
Total current flowing around the circuit is equal to the total of all the currents through the separate components
What happens at junctions?
Current either splits or rejoins
Total current going into a junction must equal the total amount of current leaving
What happens If two identical components are connected in parallel?
The same current will flow through each component
What is the exception in a parallel circuit?
Ammeters (always connected in series even in a parallel circuit)
