Circuits Flashcards
How do you find resistance?
By measuring the current through and the potential difference across the component
What does an ammeter measure?
Currents (in amps) flowing through the component
How do you put an ammeter in a circuit?
In series
Anywhere in main circuit but never in parallel
What does a voltmeter measure?
Potential difference ( in volts) across the component
How do you put a voltmeter in a circuit?
In parallel
Around the component you’re testing ( not around variable resistor or battery)
What three things are put in series?
The component
The ammeter
The variable resistor
What happens as you vary the variable resistor?
It alters the current flowing through the circuit
What does varying the resistor allow you to do?
Take several pairs of readings from ammeter and voltmeter
Plot these values in a V-I graph and find the resistance
