Seperating Mixtures:EVAPORATION Flashcards
1
Q
What happens when you mix copper sulphate and water?
A
The copper surface falls to the bottom and dissolves in the water as it is soluble.
2
Q
How can copper sulphate be seperating from the water?
A
Evaporation.
3
Q
How does evaporation work?
A
When the solution is heated, the particles gain more kinetic energy causing them to move faster and spread out, changing it into a gas. The copper sulphate is left behind as it has a much higher boiling point then water.

Q
Why can’t sand and water be separated by evaporation?
A
Because sand is insoluble. So it is much faster to separate them via filtration,.
