Separating Mixtures: Chromatography Flashcards
1
Q
What is chromatography used for?
A
To separate mixtures of coloured or non-coloured substances that are soluble in the same solvent.
2
Q
How does chromatography work?
A
The stationary phase is there filter paper and the mobile phase is the solvent (water), which moves the ink as it dissolves. The more soluble colour will move further up the paper and the less soluble colours are much slower-as they take longer to dissolve.
