Sensory (Winnie Dunn) Flashcards
in a person with TBI, how should u touch them?
use deep pressure and joint compression bc its very organizing to the CNS, light touch provides more of an overall generalized arousal that can be very disruptive.
what is sensory integration
emphasizes engaging in therapeutic activities to change the child’s skills and abilities so the child can participate
>how can we fix the kid
sensory processing
emphasizes adjusting context and making life accessible for the person, like curb cuts, the disability belongs to the community and not only the person.
>how can we modify the activity or surroundings to make it easier for the kid on the belief that ur sensory processing patterns don’t change
>focuses on the person in their life, not in the clinic
briefly describe the 4 types of sensory ppl?
Sensors- rach, like things their way, nice and neat and controlled, planners, etc.
avoiders- try to just avoid too much stimuli
seekers- always always wanting more and more stimuli!
bystanders- me, dont really worry about much, dont get too worked up, get lost, loose things, don’t notice things
high threshold, passive activation
bystander, registration
low threshold, passive activation
sensor, sensitivity
high threshold, active activation
seeker
low threshold, active activation
