Q
What are the component of a RADAR?
A
- Transmitter = Provides RF energy at extremely high power
- Receiver = Very sensitive super heterodyne Rx; accepts signals 1-10 MHz; detect and amplifies the echoes; changes echoes to video and sends a signal to the indicator.
- Antenna = Highly directional; duplexer to switch from Tx to Rx; Normally a rotating planar array
- Power supply
- Indicator = Method of presenting data depends on the RADAR’s purpose
- Modulator = Stores energy between pulses; determines waveform (shape); Sync tells it when to release Energy
- Synchronizer = Timing for entire system: determine the PRF, rage marks ad triggers the modulator

Q
What are some common indicator presentations?
A
A= Determine range but rough direction B= Determine range, target size, and bearing C= Night fighter to follow enemy J= normally used as a RADALT E= normally used as a precision approach radar (PAR) PPI= Provides a map like picture/most common/Plan Position Indicator
